Invisalign Overview

Metal braces are very effective at correcting minor bite problems and often the only way to deal with serious malocclusions. That said, no one is ever going to tell you that metal braces are beautiful, or easy to wear. They have to be cemented onto your teeth, so over the course of your treatment, you cannot remove them to enjoy foods that require a lot of chewing, to clean your teeth, or if you are having photos taken.

Fortunately, there is an alternative to metal braces for most patients. Unless you have a very bad bite, you could be a candidate for Invisalign clear braces. They are, as you can tell from the name, far less visible than metal braces, since they are made from clear plastic.

It gets even better too. Invisalign clear braces are not cemented to your teeth. There are no bands or wires, just a series of clear aligners that you will change at regular intervals, on a schedule determined by your dentist. You can take your Invisalign aligners out at mealtime and then clean your teeth, and pop them back in. This means far less potential for decay than you would expect with metal braces.

Another thing you do not have to deal with when you are fitted with Invisalign clear braces is the tightening treatments that go hand-in-hand with metal braces. There are no bands or wires, so nothing needs to be tightened. This also means fewer visits to your dentist’s office. Of course we do want to see you from time to time, just to be sure that your treatment is progressing the way it should, but you can count on spending a lot less time in the chair.

With Invisalign, you can have your teeth straightened in about a year, without having to deal with the discomfort and unpleasant appearance of metal braces.
