Inlays/Onlays

What Are Inlays/Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are used to correct decay or replace existing metal fillings. They are tooth colored and are made from composite resin or porcelain. An onlay treats decay of several cusps (the protrusions that the tip of your tongue feels when touching your back teeth). An inlay treats decay in the cusps of one tooth. Both restore the appearance and functionality of your teeth. The difference is just in terminology.

If you do need an inlay or onlay Dr. Visger will first need to remove any damaged areas or decay. An impression is then made of the tooth. Because of using the CEREC system, inlays and onlays can be done in one visit. The restoration will be created and then cemented with a special cement to your tooth. Your restored tooth will have full function and a natural appearance again.
