A dental emergency can happen anywhere at any time. It doesn’t matter if you’re on vacation and are in the middle of nowhere, far away from a dentist to get treated.
Fillings can get loose for many reasons, including a blow to the tooth, chewing on something hard, or teeth clenching and grinding. We will give you some tips on how to manage a loose filling until you get seen at the office.
The best way to avoid dental emergencies such as loose fillings is to practice good oral health at home and visit the dentist twice a year, or as a problem arises. If your fillings are becoming loose, we will take care of that before an emergency occurs and disrupts your vacation or day out enjoying the warm weather.
If you know you are having tooth pain or need a procedure before a trip to Asia, make sure you schedule an appointment to be seen at our office, and we will make sure you are good to go.
Taking Care of An Emergency
Tooth pain from a loose filling can be excruciating for some people and if you don’t have access to our dentist immediately, there are some things you can do to bring yourself relief.
One of the most important things is to rinse the area with salt water frequently to avoid an infection that will make matters worse. You can also take anti-inflammatory, over-the-counter medications such as Ibuprofen or Tylenol, to reduce the pain.
Another great option could be to buy a kit, sold at drugstores, that will let you seal the open area for 48-hours. You can also use sugar-free gum to cover the exposed area. Don’t throw the filling out and bring it to your appointment so our dentist can see it.
