Dental Emergencies

You work hard to keep your mouth healthy. Sometimes, however, dental emergencies happen. No one expects or plans for a dental emergency. When they do happen, they can be scary. The discomfort they cause is not only inconvenient, but it can also be downright painful. In the event of a dental emergency, treatment can often be needed right away. In these cases, Trail Ridge Dental can help.

Am I having a dental emergency?

There are several issues that qualify as a dental emergency, including:

  • Toothaches or tooth pain
  • Loosened or knocked out tooth
  • Things stuck in your teeth
  • Chipped or cracked tooth
  • Teeth that are infected or abscessed
  • Cuts in your mouth or tongue

What to do if you’re having an emergency

Dental emergencies can cause a significant amount of pain and discomfort, and they can also put your oral and overall health at risk. When you experience a dental emergency, it is important that you call us at 303-772-6960 in order to be seen right away. Putting off a dental emergency until your next scheduled cleaning and exam or ignoring it altogether will only lead to more serious issues. For example, if you have a severely damaged tooth or cut in your mouth, bacteria can enter your bloodstream. When this happens, you are at a much higher risk for developing serious health complications, including heart disease, stroke, or diabetes.

How much does an emergency exam cost?

The emergency exam itself is free for new patients, however, we do charge for dental x-rays (if they are needed). An emergency exam is also commonly referred to as a limited exam. This is a problem-focused exam that is aimed at diagnosing your specific oral health concern, rather than evaluating your entire mouth. We discuss your symptoms and perform a visual exam of the inside of your mouth. Instead of checking every part of your mouth, we will take a look at the teeth or the gums near the area that is causing you discomfort. The goal of an emergency exam is to diagnose the issue and recommend treatment. Depending upon the diagnosis, you may be able to receive treatment the same day, or you may be prescribed antibiotics to clear up an infection before you receive your necessary treatment.

Need a second opinion or consultation?

In addition to our free emergency exams, we also offer free limited exams, which can also be used for the following reasons:

Get a second opinion

Perhaps you have received an initial diagnosis from another dentist, but you are not satisfied. If you want a second opinion on your original diagnosis, we can provide that for you with an emergency exam. If you have x-rays from your original exam, you should bring those with you when you come in.

Get a consultation

Whether it is orthodontic treatment, dental implants, cosmetic dental treatments, or something else, we are here to help you make an informed decision about a specific treatment. Being limited exams, we can focus on your specific issue, whether it is misaligned teeth, missing teeth, or imperfections in your teeth, and recommend the appropriate treatment for your specific needs.
